Loftia

Loftia Early Access Review: Cozy Sky Sim with a Slow Start. Qloud Games crafts a gentle sky-bound life sim where sustainable farming and island neighborhoods show real warmth despite a sluggish tutorial.

Setting Out Across the Clouds

Stepping out onto Loftia feels like walking into an open watercolor painting that was left outside to catch the breeze. The world is arranged across suspended landmasses adrift in an endless blue sky, trading the usual rundown family plot for a breezy collective settlement. You shape an avatar through an expansive wardrobe and hair catalog before heading out onto the grass to meet neighbors and tinker with the local infrastructure.

The story does not rush you into epic drama or ancient threats. Instead, your main tasks involve patching up local systems, gathering wild salvage, and constructing tools powered by sunlight, wind, and rain. The English text interface is clean and easy to navigate across quest journals, even if the characters speak without English voice acting. That silence gives the settlement an unhurried, library-like atmosphere during the early morning hours.

Hydroponic Plots and Windmill Belts

Farming in the sky moves away from simple dirt trenches. Loftia has you setting up trellis structures, hydroponic trays, and aquaponic tanks where circulating water and small fish sustain rows of leafy greens. Watching water trickle through elevated channels creates an unusually soothing rhythm, turning ordinary resource gathering into something methodical and pleasant.

Diving into the settings menu early on pays dividends. The developers included a toggle to turn off camera delay and smoothing, and switching that off immediately makes navigating small bridges and narrow terraces feel much tighter under your fingers. Character movement still carries a slight floatiness across slopes, but adjusting the view settles the handling down enough to let you focus on tending your harvest.

Capybaras and Crumbling Warehouses

Beyond the domestic plots, you can head out into wilder biomes to scavenge through abandoned factories and solve straightforward terrain puzzles. These rusted industrial ruins offer a nice visual contrast against the bright green lawns of town, yielding spare components for future community projects. It feels like gentle urban exploration set three thousand feet in the air.

Along the paths you can discover stranded animals to rescue and bring home. I spent an entire session coaxing a turtle back to my plot before outfitting a newly adopted capybara in small accessories. These companions wander alongside you as you decorate your cottage or connect your floating landmass to adjacent neighbor plots, giving the shared world an earnest, lived-in charm.

Early Access Growing Pains

Even with its charm, the opening stretch has caused plenty of grumbling among early buyers. Loftia debuted at number two on the United States Steam top sellers list at a price of $24.89, but its opening user reviews sit at a mixed 64 percent positive rating across seventeen submissions. A big part of that frustration stems from a slow tutorial that stretches past the typical refund window, alongside player worries about how future quest lines might be monetized.

That initial stiffness is real, and the introductory errands keep you on a surprisingly tight leash before unlocking the freedom to truly build out your neighborhood. Still, the underlying foundation of cooperative builds and renewable craft systems has genuine sincerity behind it. If Qloud Games trims the tutorial clutter and keeps their community projects open to everyone, this skybound sanctuary could grow into something special.

Two hour tutorial for a $25 game? Refunded immediately.

Yeah that tutorial dragging on for nearly two hours is rough. The jump and walking physics definitely feel floaty whenever you hit uneven ground too, just like the review says. At least being able to turn off camera delay in the settings helps a bit.
