Denshattack!

Denshattack! Review: Razor-Sharp Rail Tricks with Punchy Impact. Undercoders delivers an intense train-skating arcade action game where tight inputs and crisp collision make grinding through megacorp tracks an absolute blast.

Snappy Inputs on the Track

Right out of the gate, the stick response is immediate. I spent my first ten minutes just testing micro-adjustments on the rails, seeing how quickly the cars pivot when you initiate an ollie or kickflip off a high-speed incline. There is zero dead weight in the turning radius, and pressing the jump button fires the physics jump check on that exact tick without lingering windup.

A lot of arcade action hybrids feel floaty when they transition between aerial tricks and ground checks, but here your train snaps down hard the second you level out your landing. If you misjudge the angle on a rail, you bounce off cleanly instead of sliding into geometry soup. It forces you to respect the timing of your landings and grinds, which is exactly how a momentum-heavy action setup needs to operate.

Boss Encounters and Active Dodges

The boss lineup goes from silly to genuinely demanding very fast. Miraido puts everything from mechanical worms to walking castles and mecha magical girls directly across your route. These fights are not passive obstacle courses where you just hold forward. Bosses drop wide sweeping hazards across the rails that require clean hops and lateral line swaps.

Dodging feels earned because the incoming strike volumes are readable. When a giant mechanical claw swipes across three tracks in Osaka, you see the telegraph clearly and the collision box matches the metal limb cleanly. Snapping over the sweep with a kickflip into a rail grind gives you a direct burst of speed and points, turning evasive maneuvers into offensive setup without any sluggish recovery animation stalling your rhythm.

Speed Runs and Dome Metropolises

You travel across Japan from the countryside of Kyushu up into the domed skylines of Tokyo and Osaka, ending out in the snowfields of Hokkaido. Every dome adds sharper track splits and tighter hazard corridors. The pacing keeps your eyes locked on the next rail node while rival gangs try to run you off the edge.

Racing rival Denshattackers forces you to chain grinds while managing boost meters and high scores. What makes it work is the consistency of the collision geometry. Rails curve around skyscraper walls and dive into meadows without snagging your rear cars, so you can push top speeds without fearing arbitrary invisible walls eating your run.

Minor Rough Spots in the Chaos

The presentation carries full English interface and voice support, which works fine when characters yell over the comms while you are dodging laser lines. The audio mix occasionally lets boss sound effects drown out the cue for track switches, which can lead to a cheap hit if you are relying on audio cues instead of visual scan lines during crowded arena sections.

Customizing the train gives you plenty of visual style, but camera angles can get slightly erratic during tight vertical loops near volcano drops. When the camera whips around to track an inverted drop, you lose sight of the landing rail for a split second. It does not ruin the run, but on higher-speed boss phases it demands pure muscle memory over sight reading.

The inverted drop camera is definitely a weak spot. I found if you time your jump input right at the start of the tilt, it resets the view faster. It is not perfect, but it works.

ur missing the point rn but it makes sense why u feel that way. the camera whip is real but the game is still fun. i died twice on a miraido boss bc the music hid the train, so i just turned the music down. 8.9 is fair.

Was so ready for this... but man... the rail grinding feels like pure magic at first... those sparks just hit right... but then the camera started acting up on me during those long drops... I wanted to love every second of it... but I keep feeling like I'm fighting the view instead of the tracks.....

Those domed city routes have some really tricky sections where your jump timing has to be totally pinpoint. You miss the fast line and you're eating hits on the hazards before you even reach the boss.

Twenty bucks for this? That's two big breakfast platters at the local diner right there. Y'all are fixin to get your money's worth if you like fast arcade stuff, but I’m still on the fence about the length.

Is the lighting in the dome actually dynamic or just baked in? Do the shadows shift as you hit those high-speed grinds, or is it just the camera motion tricking my eyes? Could the sound issues be tied to specific hardware profiles?

The rail sparks when you land a grind have this crisp little pop that makes the collision feel even better. Did anyone else catch the way the sunlight bleeds through the domed city roofs during the late routes? Does the sound stay readable on a TV or do I need headphones for the boss audio?

honestly just good to chill out with (after a rough shift anyway (too many spreadsheets and not enough trains)). The camera did its weird little whip thing once and I just laughed. Anyone else leave it on the dome routes just to watch the lights go by?

oofJul 17, 06:04 PM

if the boss music is covering the track hazards just turn the music slider down (someone already said that but i didn't listen and ate a train) (i ate it twice actually) so yeah no stress either way (just my two cents though).

Has anyone tried doing the domed city route without switching tracks once? I got through it just by timing the jumps, and it felt like a nice slower pace. Or is the point to always take the fast line?

Total letdown.

crumpetJul 16, 11:47 PM

@l33t_strpurelol you just posting that everywhere now tbh looks like a waste of time

needacoffeeJul 22, 11:51 AM

@l33t_strpureReally solid fighting and track switching, hope the devs keep at it. Calling it a total letdown is a bit much considering how fluid the skating feels.

tschuss_timJul 16, 06:54 PM

bro the camera doing that full whip on drops is just free motion sickness. still worth the 20 for the grind sound alone. also the boss music is so loud i failed twice and blamed the mix not myself lol

isitoveryetJul 16, 07:07 PM

@tschuss_timgit gud lol. beat my time on the dome tracks then talk to me rn.

outofpaperagainJul 16, 06:26 PM

The camera whipping on inverted drops is annoying, but at least the domed city tracks look cool while it happens. The Miraido bosses are intense too. I really need more of those fights.

danny bJul 16, 01:37 PM

great job to the devs on this one, the collision really is spot on for the megacorp tracks. i was worried about the camera thing from the review but it only happened once for me on a countryside rail and it was weirdly fun. boss fights are frantic in the best way, i kept pressing the wrong switch because my hands were sweating. my only gripe is the sound mix, i missed a hazard twice because the boss music was too loud. but honestly for twenty bucks this is a steal, im gonna play it again tonight

oofJul 16, 02:15 PM

@danny bI hear you on the boss sound. My setup is just a TV speaker so I probably made it worse. I got clipped by a train I didn't hear because of it. But the collision is so tight I can't even stay mad. Felt like I got outplayed by my own volume knob. No stress though.

blehJul 16, 08:39 PM

@oofy'all need to go into the audio settings and turn down the music slider just a hair. might could save your ears during those boss fights so you can actually hear the train incoming. it helps a lot.

l33t_strpureJul 16, 01:34 PM

Saw the review score, then watched the rail grind clip. Camera still whips on inverted drops. Total letdown.

prost_paulJul 16, 02:07 PM

@l33t_strpureStop acting like the camera is game-breaking. The review said it happens sometimes, not every single time. It’s definitely not a dealbreaker. Calling it a total letdown over that is just dramatic.

Stevie CJul 17, 01:14 AM

@l33t_strpureAn 8.9 feels pretty fair honestly. Complaining about the camera doing a little twirl on inverted drops makes sense, sure, but you barely notice once the action kicks off. I hit one of the Miraido bosses and completely forgot the camera even exists, mostly because another train was already flying right into my face. Solid buy for twenty bucks.

ciao_tonyJul 18, 05:01 PM

@Stevie CCall me soft, but cruising through the countryside rails looks so nice. Shame the boss fights just blast your ears with noise instead of keeping that vibe. Tracks are super fun to grind on, but the story behind any of it just isn't there for me.
