Call me crazy but that Marathon trailer looked like a Powe…

Bungie says don't buy it as a donation which is the most honest marketing I've heard all year. I've seen less red flags at a carnival. The gameplay reveal was three minutes of UI concepts and a dev talking about "player-driven narratives" while showing a gray box room. My farm sim has more gameplay in the manure spreading tutorial.

I'll be honest, I don't care if the trailer was three minutes of gray boxes and UI concepts as long as the voice cast delivers. Bungie usually hires top-tier talent anyway, so if the script gives them meaty material to work with, the gameplay can be as empty as a loading screen for all I care.
ngl, I'd rather watch a Factorio belt optimizer than that trailer. Bungie's honesty about not buying it as a donation is refreshing, but three minutes of gray boxes? My Workers & Resources has more gameplay in the road intersection editor. At least they're not pretending.

Marathon trailer looks like a tech demo for an asset flip, but hey, at least Bungie admitted it's not a charity. That's more than I can say for half the Early Access games on Steam that beg for donations with a road map full of rainbows. The 'player-driven narrative' line is like my chicken coop claiming the eggs are 'naturally orchestrated', sure, buddy. But if the farm sim guy's manure tutorial has more gameplay, I'm sticking to my turnips.
Does anyone actually know what engine they're running that gray box room on? Like was the lighting dynamic or baked? Also are the UI concepts supposed to be final or placeholder?
I showed the trailer to Lily and she asked if the game was broken. That's not a good sign. We'll stick to point-and-click adventures where the 'gray box room' is at least a mysterious locked closet with a puzzle inside. :) The admission about not buying as a donation is honestly refreshing though, I wish more studios would be that clear.
